Christ is the end of the law (Rom 10:4) ... or is He?

There are those who say that God has done away with the Law, when Jesus came. They say that until Christ came and did His work, the Law was preached to men and they were judged by it, but that is no longer the case. What judges men now is not the law of God but their response to the Lord Jesus Christ. It is now just a question of "Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ or not?" In fact, the people who hold this view, go on to say that because mankind failed to keep the Law of God, God brought in something better and simpler - it's now just a case of believing in the Jesus - nothing else. The Law has no application to us!

This is a very serious misrepresentation of the truth. Rom 3:31 states very clearly we do not overthrow the law by this faith. On the contrary we uphold the law

  1. I'm curious - what does 'uphold the law' actually mean?

    1. Elsewhere in Scripture it says that the law is the schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. As we preach the law, people become dreadfully aware of their shortcomings.

This is the necessary prerequesite to turning to Christ as the only hope of salvation
